Global Metal Solutions' (GMS) Hyundai R520LC-9 has just undergone a full in-house transformation by the Porter Mechanical team - now turning heads at their Auckland recycling yard.
A New Lease on Life: Global Metal Solutions' (GMS) Refurbished Hyundai R520LC-9 Hits the Yard
When it comes to heavy-duty performance in high-demand environments, there’s no room for compromise - especially in recycling metal. That’s why GMS went all-in on the recent purchase and full refurbishment of this Hyundai R520LC-9, now fully commissioned and ready for work in their Auckland yard.
This isn’t just a fresh coat of paint - it’s a ground-up overhaul designed to deliver reliable performance, maximise operator comfort, and handle the sheer intensity of recycling operations.
Here’s what makes this machine stand out:
Power and Performance Enhancements
A brand-new hydraulic pump and a full system flush laid the foundation for long-term reliability - especially important before installing the heavy-duty shear.
A CS70RS Steel Shear from Fennex, fully installed and backed by a 12-month warranty, means this machine is now a cutting force to be reckoned with.
Rotate circuit and case drain installation ensures smooth and controlled operation of the shear under pressure.
The 10,000-hour service keeps the machine in peak condition, with additional component inspections and replacements as needed.
Structural & Mechanical Upgrades
Full inspection and reseal of the lift ram, along with checks on boom pins and bushes.
Replacement of sub-par hoses, silicon joiners, and engine gaskets, followed by a full engine top-tune.
Dipper arm and piping setup has been retained and refinished- allowing for future reconfiguration back to digging work if required.
Fresh Look, Built Tough
The machine has been fully panelled and painted in black, with GMS signage and handrails repainted in grey, giving it a sharp, clean finish.
5% window tint applied all around not only adds to the sleek look but boosts in-cab comfort on long, hot days.
A front guard installed inside the ROPS frame rounds out the machine's protection, especially critical in scrap yard conditions.
From the heavy-duty rebuild right through to the final paint touch-ups, this R520 is a perfect example of how smart refurbishment can extend machine life, boost performance, and keep operations running strong.
Even more impressive - every part of this transformation was completed in-house by our exceptional Porter Mechanical team. From hydraulic upgrades to finishing details, the result speaks for itself: a purpose-built machine ready to thrive in one of the most demanding environments in the industry.
Huge thanks to Fennex for the CS70RS shear install - and full credit to the Porter crew for another high-calibre rebuild.
Now based in GMS’ Auckland yard, this machine is locked, loaded, and built to perform.
